WELCOME

Dear participants,

We are pleased to invite you to the EARTO 2013 Annual Conference which will be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia May 23-24, 2013.

The 2013 EARTO Annual Conference theme is "NEW HORIZONS FOR 2020 AND BEYOND: CROATIA AND SOUTH EAST EUROPE IN THE EUROPEAN UNION". The Conference will be hosted by Brodarski institut and Rudjer Boskovic Institute.

This is the first time that Croatia has been provided with the opportunity to organise the EARTO Conference. Thus EARTO recognises Croatia as an equal partner in the European research and technology community and important partner and main promoter of scientific and technological research and economic development and innovation in the South-East European region.

The 2013 EARTO Annual Conference will be held in the year when the Republic of Croatia will become an EU Member State, which contributes to the significance and symbolism of the event. 2013 is also the year in which the FP7 research programme reaches the end of its seven year term, to be followed by a new research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020. These significant changes define the topics of the conference:

•    Horizon 2020 – differences in objectives, instruments and practices in relation to FP7
•    EU Structural Funds – how they can be efficiently deployed for the development of research and innovation within Croatia and South East Europe, but also outside these borders, along with Horizon 2020 funds.
•    A meeting place – where research organisations from South East Europe and EU Member States may develop mutually beneficial relations

We sincerely hope that you will join us in these discussions and exchanges and so help to make this Conference a success.

Under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović.
